Is Physical Healing In the Atonement? Yes!

physical healing in the atonement

“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.”John 15:4

Is physical healing in the atonement? In short, yes. Let me explain.

Jesus presents us with a simple gospel. While it may be nearly too good to be true news; it is our inheritance. Let us keep the same simplicity in our walk toward healing. Man has complicated it – God has made it as easy as salvation. He wants people healed. Therefore, He has freely given us the very life of God.

The picture above reveals tree roots. While these are not the most beautiful part of the tree, they are the most necessary. You see, when we became a citizen of heaven, we got connected to a new source of life. You have what the root has. Under the Old Testament, sickness flowed because of sin. No one had to believe for sickness, it was normal seeing their spirit was separated from the life of God. In the New Covenant, because of Jesus’ atonement, healing flows and it is the result of our position in Christ. Healing comes because of righteousness.

Is Physical Healing Included In Jesus’ Atonement?

Matthew 8:17 states, “That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.” [emphasis mine]

Do you see from the verse above that Jesus took care of our healing in the atonement?

How can we teach how to get healed when Jesus has already given healing to His children? How can we preach what we have been given and then teach steps on how to get it?

Honestly, it is not even our believing that produces healing. It is our connection as a branch abiding in the vine connected to the roots. As awkward as it may sound, born again believers would have to believe to get sick because they do not have it in their possession. Yet, we do have the life of God in our possession. When we teach what we have, healing is easy. It is the by-product of having your sin forgiven through Jesus’ sacrifice and atonement.

Jesus! Jesus took the curse in our place! Jesus bore the wages of sin which includes sickness and death. Through His atoning sacrifice and ressurection, Jesus gives us a new life. This is the consequence of our born-again experience. In this new life, sin and sickness have been evicted and lost their power.

How Is Physical Healing Connected With Forgiveness of Sins?

Ephesians 5:30-32 states, “For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.”

The new creation who is created in Christ is remarkable. When you received salvation, you became one spirit with the Lord. This is the Lords doing and it is marvelous in our eyes. This is a brand-new entity in which God and man become one new species, one new man. God and man in union creates us in His image. This new you is sinless.

We are aware sickness is a physical manifestation of a spiritual condition. Basically, sickness is a fruit of sin. You are sinless! This means sickness lost its ability and power over you. Because of Jesus, by being in union with Him, we produce godly righteous fruits filled with the life and nature of God. For it is His (Zoe) life that we have been given. This is the life of God.

It is so easy! You may be wondering what role faith must play since Jesus has already given us healing as our inheritance. Faith is established upon a past event. Faith looks back to the cross. Faith sees Jesus as a sacrificial Lamb for sin and recognizes who we have been created to be along with our inheritance. Faith in simple terms is your expectation; for good or bad.

healing in the atonement

Faith is important.

But it is never used to get something from God. Rather, it believes in the atonement Jesus already provided. A great example is salvation. When you got born again, you partook of what was already provided. Your faith did not get God to forgive you of your sins, your faith caused you to see yourself forgiven. The provisions were set on the table for quite a while, waiting for the day you would call Him your Lord. Faith responded.

what the Bible says about physical healing

What Does the Bible Say About Physical Healing?

The focus of the Bible is to teach you about your new identity. This is the victory that Jesus won. His crowning achievement; God in man!

The gospel of righteousness reveals sin and sickness lost. We discover salvation is much more than getting to go to heaven one day. It is for our victory while we are living in a fallen world. Salvation saves you from sickness. Redemption redeems your life from the destruction due to the curse of the law. Freedom has freed you from trying to obtain because Jesus has already freely given.

1 Peter 2:24 states, “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.”

This is an identity scripture. Yet, we have complicated this verse into something we confess to try to get something to happen. This verse reveals you died to sin and sickness, and you are made right. Therefore, you are healed.

Romans 8:11 says, “But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.”

As previously mentioned, what you possess is the life of God. His life dwells inside of your earthen vessel. His life-giving spirit reproduces its life in the temple it resides within. We are not trying to get this to happen. It is happening.

When we believe we are like Jesus in this world, we will believe we are sinless and healed creatures. There, we will discover that healing is designed for the pre-believers. You and I who are born again should both be walking in health and overcoming anything that is connected to death. We have the life of God to give it away to those who do not possess His life. They need to receive what we have in our possession.
